Membership
Overall Goals
The overall goals of the Harper Cancer Research Institute (HCRI are:
- To promote and integrate basic, translational, and clinical cancer research throughout the multiple disciplines of Institute members, in the local community, and national arenas.
- To participate in cancer-related education and outreach activities of the Institute, in the local community, and national arenas.
Membership Categories and Eligibility Criteria
Full Member - Basic or clinical faculty actively engaged in cancer-related research or with a strong commitment to integrating cancer-relevant research interest into their investigative program, evidence of scholarly productivity, commitment to conduct collaborative cancer-relevant research and to support the activities of the HCRI including participation in research, seminars, review panels, and outreach efforts.
Associate Member – Basic or clinical faculty actively engaged in cancer-related research or with a strong commitment to integrating cancer-relevant research interest into their investigative program, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a commitment to conduct collaborative cancer-relevant research.
Trainee Member – graduate or medical students, post-doctoral fellows, and medical/surgical residents actively engaged in cancer-related research or with a strong commitment to integrating cancer-relevant research interest into their investigative program, commitment to conduct collaborative cancer-relevant research and to support the activities of the HCRI including participation in research, seminars, review panels and outreach efforts.
Alliance Member - Physician, nursing, and allied health staff affiliated with the University community; members of the University associated with cancer research in general or HCRI in particular, cancer patient advocates; faculty from other universities or institutes engaged in cancer research; civic or community leaders committed to advancing cancer awareness and research.
Member Responsibilities
Full Member - Expected to demonstrate commitment to the research, education and outreach goals of the Institute. Specifically, Full Members must be willing to:
- Affiliate their publications, grant applications, and presentations with HCRI.
- Accept service and/or leadership roles on HCRI committees, when appropriate.
- Submit periodic progress reports to keep HCRI leadership appraised of cancer-relevant publications, grants and other activities.
- Contribute to cancer-relevant research, education, and outreach activities of the University.
- Regularly participate in HCRI activities including seminars and program meetings and the annual Research Day in April.
Associate Member – Expected to demonstrate commitment to the research, education and outreach goals of the Institute. Associate Members must be willing to:
- Submit periodic progress reports to keep HCRI leadership appraised of cancer-relevant publications, grants and other activities.
- Contribute to cancer-relevant research, education, and outreach activities of the University.
- Regularly participate in HCRI activities including seminars and program meetings and the annual Research Day in April.
Trainee Member – Graduate or medical students, post-doctoral fellows, and medical/surgical residents are expected to demonstrate commitment to the research, education and outreach goals of the Institute. Specifically, Trainee Members must be willing to:
- Affiliate their publications, grant applications, and presentations with HCRI.
- Be willing to serve on HCRI review panels.
- Contribute to cancer-relevant research, education, and outreach activities of the University.
- Regularly participate in HCRI activities including seminars and program meetings and the annual Research Day in April.
Alliance Member – Expected to demonstrate commitment to the research, education and outreach goals of the Institute.

In most cases, the funding provided by the Harper Cancer Research Institute will be reserved for Full and Trainee Members.
