Last Friday (Nov. 15), Crislyn D’Souza-Schorey, professor of biological sciences, participated in the Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Summit in Erie, Pa. She gave a presentation titled, “New Insights into Cancer Progression: Biology and Clinical Promise.” Established in 2009, the Global Summit is a week-long series of presentations about broad range of global issues that aim to engage nearly 2,500 attendees in high-level dialogue about these issues.
The focus of D’Souza-Schorey’s laboratory is to define how altered regulation of signaling pathways that govern cell motility contribute to cancer initiation and progression. The ultimate goal is to utilize this information for the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Her major areas of research include early events in epithelial cancer progression, molecular mechanisms of tumor cell invasion, and signaling pathways in rare neurodegenerative diseases.
The Jefferson Educational Society is a non-profit institution that promotes civic engagement and community progress in the Erie, Pa. region. The society hosts courses, seminars and lectures to enhance the civic future of the Erie region by exploring ideas that have formed its past, assist in exploring the present, and will offer guidance for the area’s future.
